Managed the inventory of the PBS NewsHour’s collection of approximately 7,300 preservation tapes in a variety of formats and provided condition reports for each format. Conducted the inventory using a PBcore based template and refined all inventory data using OpenRefine. Trained an assistant in basic archival inventory practices and managed their daily work. Digitized production documents stored on microfiche for the AAPB’s National Educational Television project.
Inspected and identified 16mm and 35mm films and wrote basic condition reports as part of a project to save the Cambodian government’s film collection.

Processed a collection of promotional posters for documentaries and animated films at the National Film Archive of Albania and provided basic inspection notes on their condition.

Assisted in the inspection, repair and digitization of 16mm film and 1/4″ audio tape from the archive’s Fred Engelberg Collection. Learned the fundamentals of handling, inspection and repair for both film and magnetic tape. Learned the fundamentals of small gauge film projection.
GRADUATE RESEARCHER ASSISTANT: Genocide Archive of Rwanda, Kigali, Rwanda, 2013
Assisted in the strategic planning for the expansion of the archive’s collection and the development of a five-year plan. Assessed the archival practices and physical state of collections at multiple partner archives and made initial recommendations for improvements when necessary. Created a customized FileMaker Pro database to replace the Microsoft Excel inventory of the archive’s holdings. Conducted a one-day seminar on the basics of digital video, preservation and digitization. Wrote a successful grant for the donation of 3 work vehicles from the United Kingdom Department for International Development.

Cataloged newly accessioned material and revised and updated older catalog records in WITNESS’ FileMaker Pro database. Performed catalog research for a variety of productions and projects. Updated list of subject index terms and retroactively applied new terms to appropriate records. Crosschecked rights information in catalog records with legal agreements and made updates as necessary. Removed restricted information from publicly accessible records.

Operated camera for a variety of short form documentary and promotional videos. Assisted Directors of Photography and 1st Camera Assistants with a range of camera department tasks for a variety of commercials, music videos, and short films.

Digitally restored damaged and degraded films using MTI Correct DRS software. Monitored digitization into restoration system and output of corrected material to HD tape. Re-organized and catalogued client video archive for easier use and search on company computers. Assisted editors, colorists and tape operators with client projects and daily tasks.

Worked with Equipment Managers to clean, maintain, test and prepare all production gear for upcoming shoots, as well as inspect and repair all gear upon its return. Consulted with Production Coordinators on equipment related questions and appropriate camera setups for various shooting scenarios.
